Day 3 – Tall People in Beppu (07.11.2011)

November 11, 2011

We stayed in the Suginoi Hotel in Beppu… I Really don’t want to know how much we spent for our stay there. We got to the Onsen in the Morning, which was a bad Idea. My circulation broke down and I spent the morning vomiting instead of eating breakfast.

Beppu is a wonderfull small town. Well, for Japan anyway. It is still as big as Zurich… They are a town for tourists. The entire Town lives from the sulphur wells. Everywhere you find Onsen and Hotels, and a nice Shopping Mile… well… for me everything looked a little old. But I think that’s why I’m a spoiled swiss girl. I just got used to a higher standard. Still… I loved it there.

After we finished the our tour through the Town near the Station and paid the beach a visit, we decided to do some tourists stuff. There is a Jigokudani. Many public Onsen, a Crocodile park, and even a Park, the ‘Umijigoku’ with big pools. Because of the sulphur they were shiny blue, dark red… steaming… it was just awesome to watch.  And we even got a nice hot footbath in the end. I now know that I really want to visit more volcanic islands in the future. And maybe even a volcano…

In the evening we decided to take advantage of the Hotel’s  own swimming pool and water show. Lots of Japanese people decided the same. Japanese people are very small. And my Friend Horus is about 2m tall. That’s something the Japanese people really love. Everytime we got stuck in an elevator with some of them, they tended to point out how big he is, started to laught and poking him, to get sure he’s real. Well… he is, and if he starts running he would be a real “running “ for Japanese people :D
